ContextBridge (“we”, “our”, or “the extension”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how your information is collected, used, and protected when you use the ContextBridge Chrome Extension.

1. Core Principle: Your Data Stays Yours

ContextBridge is designed with privacy as the highest priority. We do not collect, store, or transmit your conversation data to our own servers under any circumstances. The primary functionality of extracting and formatting conversations happens entirely locally on your device.

2. Information We Access

To function, ContextBridge requires access to specific types of data:

  • Active Tab Content: When you click “Extract Conversation”, the extension reads the text of the chat interface on the currently active tab (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity). This is strictly necessary to format and export your conversation.
  • Local Storage: The extension uses Chrome’s local storage to save your Anthropic API key (if you choose to provide one for the compression feature).

3. Data Processing and Third-Party Services

  • Local Processing: By default, all conversation extraction, JSON generation, and Markdown generation happen 100% locally within your browser.
  • Anthropic API (Optional): If you enable the “Compress long contexts” feature and provide an Anthropic API key, the extension will send the extracted conversation text directly to Anthropic’s API (api.anthropic.com) to generate a compressed summary.
    • This data is sent directly from your browser to Anthropic; it never passes through our servers.
    • Your use of this feature is governed by Anthropic’s Privacy Policy.
    • Your Anthropic API key is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted anywhere except directly to Anthropic’s official API endpoint.

4. Permissions Justification

We request the following Chrome permissions strictly for these reasons:

  • activeTab: To read the conversation text only on the exact tab where you click the extension.
  • scripting: To safely execute the text-extraction script on the active tab.
  • storage: To save your Anthropic API key locally so you don’t have to enter it every time.
  • Host Permission (*://api.anthropic.com/*): To allow the extension to send requests to Anthropic strictly for the optional compression feature.

5. Data Sharing and Selling

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information or conversation data to any third parties. We literally do not have access to it.

6. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the extension’s listing and on this page. By continuing to use the extension, you agree to the updated policy.
